The humble dry erase pen started out life in the sales and marketing business a lot of years ago, as a replacement for using a non erasable pen on large tablets of paper for sales managers or orators to make illustrations and notes to groups of medium size.
Previous to the dry erase marker, their other choice was to carry in a very cumbersome chalkboard and use dusty chalk, but that was not often doable, especially when traveling. Their next possibility was a large sheet of paper attached to an easel, to which, notes and ideas were produced with a permanent marker or grease pen. When travelling for any length of time, a lecturer or manager could need 100′s of sheets of paper in the form of tablets of big format paper.
With the introduction of the dry erase pen this all changed. Now, calculations, notes and images can be applied to a light weight whiteboard, then easily wiped right off with a dry towel or regular eraser. With the dry erase pen, the dry erase board can be used over and over. With no bulky black board, no messy chalk and no piles of large format paper to deal with, the dry erase marker was an immediate hit.
It wasn’t long until educators discovered the dry erase marker for classroom use. First for the teacher in general lectures and facts and figures, but, soon, for the student. Since dry erase boards were cheapin and light weight, even small children could have their own personal 8″x 11″ whiteboard tablet to work on using a non-toxic, low odor dry erase marker.
Of course, today a dry erase pen comes in a variety sizes, shapes & colors. There isn’t a doubt the dry erase pen is the most common type of pen manufactured in the world.
